Detail from People Watching, acrylic gouache on panel, 2025

Curiosity fuels my art, whether I'm studying the natural beauty of a delicate flower, or the characteristics of an interesting object made by human hands. I've always been an observer with a keen eye for detail, a noticer of the little things. A perfect summer strawberry, iridescent wings on a beetle, an intricately carved detail in a doorway - these kinds of things delight and astound me. I enjoy trying to capture a bit of their essence with my pen or paintbrush.

*What is a Texpat Francophile???
It's a name I made up for myself as I make the transition from living in Austin, Texas, USA to a new life in Amboise, France, a charming town in the Loire Valley.

Enjoying a little light reading in the fab neo-gothic library of our house in Amboise

My husband, Patrick, and I are fixing up a maison bourgeoise in the historic quarter of Amboise. She’s a grande dame of the 18th century, created by joining multiple small medieval houses into one large house. She’s higgledy piggledy and full of surprises.

Our dream is to hold art workshops in the salons and garden, once we've restored them to their former grandeur. We’d love to bring people together for creative retreats and unique art experiences - and of course, delicious French food & wine!

Why join our Fun Drawing Club community on Skool?

Decorative sculpture in our library

Fun Drawing Club on Skool is the interactive component of Fun Drawing Club, our virtual clubhouse and classroom. It’s where you can share your sketches to get helpful feedback from me and from other community members, participate in fun drawing challenges, join our live Zoom workshops, and watch video courses at your own pace, and it’s completely free to join.

There will be a combination of free and paid video courses and virtual workshops offered online through our Skool classroom. Becoming a member ensures that you’ll stay in the know when we’re planning these offerings. You’ll be able to see our full calendar of upcoming events, and link seamlessly to Zoom calls that you wish to join. And in the future, when we host in-person, small group events in Amboise, you’ll get first dibs on tickets to these unique art retreats & workshops.

Your participation in our upcoming paid online workshops will help us transform the salons and garden of our house in Amboise into a fabulous artsy retreat space! Your support will help fund the restoration & renovation of this incredible French house (did I mention that she’s about 500 years old?!), ensuring that her unique details and historical elements are not lost to time, and allowing us to share her with admirers from around the world. We’re dreaming up super fun workshops on drawing, painting, writing - all kinds of creative topics - with a variety of guest artists. We hope you’ll be able to join us in France for one of these events in person!

Our goal is to share both our love of the arts and our admiration of the French culture with fellow creatives and adventurous travelers. Thank you for being a part of it! Whether you’re a free or paid subscriber, you are helping us grow this community of fellow Francophiles, art & history lovers. We appreciate every little bit of it!
